A Spanish MP has issued a stark warning: if Israel is not stopped in Palestine, similar actions could eventually extend beyond the region.

Podemos MP Irene Montero has delivered one of the most urgent statements from a European official during the current crisis, arguing that if the international community fails to act, the situation could escalate further and the opportunity for meaningful intervention may be closing.

Montero has been one of the most outspoken voices in Spanish politics, alongside Prime Minister Sánchez, criticizing Israel’s military actions in Gaza and condemning strikes beyond the territory, including those involving Iran and Lebanon, as part of what she views as a broader pattern of escalation.

Spain has also taken concrete steps to back its position.
In October 2025, parliament approved a full arms embargo, banning weapons sales and dual-use technology transfers. This was followed by the permanent withdrawal of Spain’s ambassador to Israel in March 2026.
