Israeli weapons company Elbit Systems, the main target of Palestine Action, is one of the final two bidders for a £2bn UK government contract to train up to 60,000 British soldiers a year.
The deal will see either Elbit or British weapons company Raytheon work with the Ministry of Defence to “transform military training”, according to a report in Private Eye.
Elbit, the largest private weapons company in Israel, provides the Israeli state with around 85% of its drone and land-based military equipment.
Elbit previously fell out of favour with the British government after repeated targeting by Palestine Action made it an unreliable supplier: in 2022, the MoD confirmed it had dropped Elbit from a £160m contract to train submarine crews.
Since then, however, the government has resumed its partnership with the company: in 2023, the UK awarded Elbit Project Vulcan, a £57m, 10-year contract to train tank crews using simulations.
In September, the government suspended 30 out of 350 arms licenses to Israel due to concerns over its potential violations of international humanitarian law. Subsequent reporting in the Guardian suggested the UK may be flouting its own ban.
