The tiny island
This sheet
of white tissue paper
reminds me of the sea
that day.
Hardly a whisper.
Almost still.
And the tiny island
uninhabited.
And the sun rising higher
and our boat
hauled onto the beach
and the heat
and our suntanned bodies
and your smile
and the peace.
It was all the world.

About this poem
I don’t know why this poem came into my head in the middle of a chilly January. The ideas in it I suppose go back a very long time to idyllic holidays on Greek islands. It’s one of the most relaxed and pleasant poems I’ve written, not yet published.
I’m currently working on a collection to be called War and Peace Poems of the 21st Century.
